Since Amazon released their popular Kindle, people have found that reading is now much easier. Previously, it was necessary to visit a bookstore or library if you wanted to pick up a new book. With the introduction of the Kindle, readers can simply download their books through Amazon?s website onto the device.
Amazon released the Kindle towards the end of 2007. At the time there were approximately 90,000 books that were compatible with the Kindle. With the help of the device?s internal wireless modem, users could simply download the book of their choosing directly to the device. This eliminated the need of a computer which made the Kindle even more convenient for its users.
As long as the books contained no illustrations, users could store as many as 200 books on their Kindle. If the books did contain illustrations, this number would obviously decrease. Luckily this device had a Secure Digital expansion slot. If the internal storage was not large enough to meet your needs, this feature was particularly nice.
As soon as the Kindle hit Amazon?s storefront it sold out. The device carried a large price tag of $399 but this did not seem to deter people from purchasing it. Although it is still expensive, Amazon eventually lowered the price to $359. Part of the reason that people do not mind spending the money is that reading with a Kindle is quite convenient.
Due to its success, the Kindle 2 was eventually released in early 2009. This upgrade carries the same price tag as the original which most people will certainly enjoy. There are several improvements that have been made to the Kindle 2. Not only will new users want to grab the new device, but owners of the original Kindle may want to upgrade as well.
The overall size of the Kindle 2 has been scaled down quite a bit. The original was nearly an inch thick while the updated version is just .36 inches thick. Battery life has also been improved upon which users will certainly enjoy.
One thing that is missing on the Kindle 2 is the Secure Digital expansion slot. This feature has been eliminated but storage capacity for the Kindle 2 has been greatly increased to compensate. Users can expect to store as many as 1,500 books on the new Kindle 2.
Another feature that makes the Kindle 2 so convenient is its new text interpreter which can actually read the book to you. Just sit back and listen as this device does the hard work for you. Fans of Stephen King will want to pick up a copy so that they can listen to the authors novella titled ?UR? which is only available on the Kindle!
